Our Story – Why Asia Global Forum
Asia Global Forum was not created from a single place—it was born from many.
It began with three women from different parts of the world: one from Sri Lanka, one from Japan, and one from Senegal. Living and working across France, Japan, Sri Lanka, Senegal, Switzerland, Thailand, and shaped by experiences in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the United States, we share a deeply global perspective—one grounded in both lived experience and decades of international work.
Collectively, we bring more than 50 years of experience within the United Nations system, complemented by significant professional work with leading organizations such as the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Finnish International Development Agency (FINNIDA), as well as in academia and the private sector. Over the years, we have also built meaningful collaborations with Asia Society, Equality Now, the Op-Ed Project, the Ford Foundation, and the United Nations Asia Network for Diversity and Inclusion (www.un-andi.org). Through these engagements, we have contributed to global dialogue, policy development, cultural exchange, and international cooperation at the highest levels.
Yet across all of these experiences, we have consistently observed a persistent gap.
Global conversations—whether in governance, media, or institutional leadership—often lack the depth and diversity of perspectives they aim to represent. Asian voices, in particular, are frequently underrepresented, simplified, or excluded from decision-making spaces that shape global outcomes. But we also saw something else. At the same time, working across continents and cultures revealed something equally important: the transformative power of connection. We saw how meaningful dialogue across regions can reshape narratives, strengthen collaboration, and lead to more inclusive and effective solutions.
Asia Global Forum was founded at that intersection—between experience and opportunity, between global systems and the voices that must help shape them. Our identities are global. Our work has been international. Our experiences span continents. And our mission reflects that: to elevate Asian voices while building bridges with communities around the world.
This is not just about representation of Asia—it is about how Asian perspectives engage with and shape global systems. It is towards ensuring that voices from across cultures and regions are not only included but are actively shaping global governance systems, policies, and conversations that define our collective future. As women working across continents and institutions, we bring a collaborative, intersectional, and solutions-driven approach. We believe inclusion must be intentional, and that sustainable change requires both representation and engagement.
Asia Global Forum exists because while the world is deeply interconnected, equity in representation has yet to fully catch up. We are here to help close that gap—through dialogue, partnership, and action. And this is only the beginning.
